Why is madoka so popular

Like I said, this could have to do with one of the themes. How there isn't an objective good or bad. That a good thing could become a bad thing The whole concept of the magical girl in this universe is kind of a metaphor for this.

Madoka destroys earth in the process of killing all witches I think that happened at least, I was kind of distracted the whole time. Please tell me what actually happened if I was wrong which shows that even though the wish of killing all present and past witches was good, it's consequence was bad.

But they also never talk about it more than that. They never go into too much depth, of how it is impossible to be perfect, even though Madoka became a god. She is just a god, and is perfect and therefore her choice was good Which is kind of was happens with christianity and other religions in some cases In general, I found the show to be kind of forgettable.

It was fairly enjoyable when I watched it, but I don't think I would ever rewatch the show if I don't have a good reason to. So yeah. I think I might give it a 7 or 6 out of A 7 for now at least.

Hope I don't get put on blast for this The concept of Madoka Magica in its essence is the same as any other of the Mahou Shoujo genre, what impacts is the way it is treated, addressing a message of maturity and loss of innocence, this becomes memorable compared to the others. It is not necessarily the first Mahou Shoujo to deal with adult themes, but it is the best when working on the turning of a script, it is not for nothing that the anime became known for establishing the "rule of the three episodes", proving that to have understanding about the that work is really about and has to offer, this number of chapters seen is necessary.

In addition to being beautiful in its art direction and symbolism, Madoka Magica brings a fluid animation and unlike any other anime seen before, more precisely when the main characters face their enemies with unique characteristics. What could be just another difference has a direct impact on the work, since it feels like being out of place and vulnerable, and not only in these magical worlds, but also in the physical world, the anime shows an empty immensity, in spite of being beautiful.

What can irritate many who watch it is the one that gives the title to the work, Madoka is the typical fairy tale girl, who always seeks optimism and romanticism in the most tragic situations, but just a careful look is enough to understand that this despite carrying the anime name is an observer and driving force of the script, Madoka could be seen as us, the viewers, who are as confused and frightened by that situation as the same, leaving the highlight almost entirely for the other characters in the story.

Madoka is much more than a subversion of genre and script, this anime must be contemplated for its character construction that differs from the majority, placing human situations in fantastical universes that end up being in the background when compared to the drama of the characters.

Highlight for the composition of the soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura that has become a jewel in the anime world, with just a few seconds in our ears we are able to recognize its singular characteristic, and remember the exact moments when it is presented in the series. Ignore the comments saying it is scary, those people don't have logic.

And don't just watch a couple of episodes and see. And most comments, as far as I see, are just internet trolls attracted by the smell of blood. If you expected this from a magical girl show, then I am concerned about your mental health. Of course, this is not the best. While not being the best, it successfully made it into my top It has well written storylines, normal characterization, and decently good character development.

Also, if you complain about animation style, you really don't deserve to watch animes, being sooo concerned on the least important part. And for those complaining about music, maybe get some artistic cells and learn to listen.

Or, just clean your ears. The music was well written and combined well with the piece. This is very worth watching, and it is strongly suggested for you to NOT listen to comments online, including me, and see it yourself.

I normally read up on a series before I buy it, but I lucked into this one without doing any research at all, and I'm so glad that I did. I'm a 42 year old male, so you might think I'm outside the demographic for this show, and so did I.

I've been collecting anime since , but I've never been into Magical Girl anime. I loved Tenchi Muyo, so I was able to stomach some Magical Girl Pretty Sammy, so I'm not completely unfamiliar with the genre, but it's really not my thing.

I only watched this because Christine Cabanos, the English voice actress for the main character was going to be at a local anime convention and I wanted to be familiar with her work before meeting her. I did absolutely no research whatsoever. After watching the first two episodes, it was headed in exactly the direction I expected it to be going, and I wasn't too excited to hit play on episode three, but I'm so glad that I did.

The first two episodes aren't all that interesting to watch, but believe me, you will enjoy them a lot more when you re-watch them, and you will. Once you finish episode ten and realize just what has been going on, a re-watch is practically mandatory. It is absolutely imperative to avoid spoilers, but you do need to know one thing: Give it at least three episodes.

The end of episode three marks a major turning point. To say that the plot gets serious at that point is an understatement. Everything changes; the story loses its frivolous nature, the art, settings and even the music change to suit the new dramatic nature of the plot, and it's at this point that you should make your judgment on whether or not to finish the series. Don't get me wrong, this is a Magical Girl anime to the end, but if you are a fan of extremely well written stories, and I mean on the level of Shakespeare, Goethe, and classical Greek legend, then this is for you, regardless of whether or not you like Magical Girls.

Especially close-ups on the character's faces leave something to be desired, but still, this animation is above average. The use of backgrounds and lighting to set the mood for the scene is done with masterful skill.

The use of a completely different art style to set the witch labyrinths apart from the real world is jarring at first, but you can't deny it IS effective. Every image is meaningful. I have never come across a better written show, bar none. Again, I'm not going to give anything away, so I'm just going to ask you to trust me here.

I can say that if you have heard that this is a deconstruction of the genre, then you heard right. It asks questions that other shows in the genre don't ask, and plays out the consequences of the character's actions and choices in a fully serious manner.

However, its more than that. It borrows heavily from the classics to give a surprisingly deep and well thought out story. The music is absolutely perfect. Where the show wants to be light and uplifting the music does that quite well. Where the music really shines is in the dramatic scenes and the action where the music can set the tone for a scene equally well, if not more so, than the visuals.

Previously, my favorite anime composer was Yoko Kanno, but after watching this, Yuki Kajiura is now top of my list and not likely to ever be deposed. She does a good job here as the main character Madoka.

The role was demanding, with a LOT of emotion, and I think she delivered that emotion believably. Christina Vee does an outstanding job as Homura. Her character is almost the opposite of Madoka, with little emotion at least in the first half of the series and an intensity that doesn't really suit a middle school student, but once you have seen the full series, you will understand that this is exactly what her character called for.

I wouldn't recommend this for younger audiences either. It really is written for a more mature, discerning, intelligent audience, and may even be off- putting, if not inappropriate for young viewers. Hint: Parents, don't buy this for your eight year old daughter. It's a fantastic show though, especially for being so short, they manage to pack a lot in there in a comprehensive way. I'd like to add to the general write-up for this that there is plenty more to talk about here with kids besides things like violence and symbolism.

Adult Written by 3Swag5You June 7, Not Your Typical Magical Girl Anime Madoka Magica is amazing, with artwork that for the most part is breathtaking, creepy when needed, cute when not. Sorry if there are any spoilers, I'll try not to write any, but I may slip, so be careful. The series starts of very lighthearted, your typical magical girl genre.

If you start to get bored, please, at least watch until episode 3. That is when Madoka and Sayaka are forced to face the reality of what it means to be a magical girl. The series only gets darker with the appearance of Kyoko Sakura, a girl who seems to only care about herself. She, for some reason, is always licking a fight.

And that's as far as I will go, because if I go any farther, there are gonna be spoilers. Most people watch the first episode, and assume that it's your typical magical girl anime. I wouldn't have watched it if my friend hadn't forced me. When I recommended this to my friends, they got bored during episode 1.

But after episode 3, they were in love with this anime. Overall, this anime is amazing, and deserves all of the praise it gets. It's definitely one of the best magical girl style amines, and my personal favorite anime of all time. He loves this show and that's the good part. Adult Written by scotierainwater March 24, It's not for kids though. Too violent, too dark, a character gets her head bitten off. Parent Written by Kristina June 3, Madoka Magica This series has a character named Homura who is very mysterious and can give fear to kids at younger ages.

The opening is very ' iffy ' because of the way the main character Madoka transforms into a Magic Girl. There are some disturbing scene like when a Magic Girl named Mami get's eaten by a witch and the noises that sounded in that scene can cause great fear towards most children. Parent of a 6, 8, and year-old Written by Mado-Mado July 7, Best Magical girl anime I love this series. It is deep and you can learn a lot from it.

One of the best anime's I've seen. It is not what you would expect when it comes to a magical girl anime. It is a bit dark and many of the girls die. Madoka is a great role model because of the way she stays positive and wants to help others. Adult Written by Blancaster December 14, All that helps create a story about hope which actually carries real weight to it.

Honestly, OP, I'm in the same boat as you. I wasn't surprised when a show with witches causing suicides in episode 1 turned out not to be all smiles and rainbows, and I don't really see what the hype is beyond that initial "surprise" which, again, I easily predicted before the first episode was even over I'm pretty sure Madoka Magica isn't even the first show of its kind that "kind" being dark mahou shoujo and it certainly isn't anywhere near the best of its kind IMO that honor goes to Day Break Illusion It's not a terrible show by any means of all the anime I didn't like, it is admittedly my favorite but I wouldn't personally call it "good" I'm happy to see everyone else on this thread enjoyed it though, since I always like to see people enjoying media that they like, whether I could enjoy that piece of media or not.

Keep enjoying anime, guys, and congrats on getting your 4th movie! Hopefully it'll be the one where I finally "click" with this series, lol. The labyrinths ARE pretty unique from an anime standpoint, but lots of western animation includes photo realistic visuals blended with 2D characters so that's nothing new to me. Of course, there are plenty of reasons behind me not liking it one-note characters, not fond of the art-style, story felt like it was edgy for edginess's sake IMO, I was bored to tears by everything except Sayaka and Kyosuke, I found all of the music except for Magia and Kyubey's theme to be forgettable, SUPER predictable plot twists IMO, symbolism that for the most part didn't really do anything for the plot, useless plot points like the girls being turned into "zombies" , etc but yeah, they're all entirely subjective reasons, and I'm sure a much less IDK, "critical"?

I'd have to disagree again with your last point, there is nothing to be looked past in this show other then the most minor or irrelevant of issues. As for the score I'm mostly interested in how well it's made and how it fits what I'm watching.

If you haven't already, it migth be worth rewatching the show or the compilation movies and trying to forget about weather a twist is predictable and instead try and focus on it for what it is and what it wants to be. You migth just end up likeing it more on a second viewing if you remove any pre-concived notions.

It is literally the best anime in anime. Superior in technical aspects with names that make the avengers look like a wannabe gang. Storytelling low-key from the depths of kino. You have some kind of wrong opinion if you say otherwise smhmhmhmhmh. MAL reviewer moment: Citrus. Because it is good, creative, intense.

Then it turns out to be something totally different dark and unique. Magic girl died Its most people's first dark magic girl. I was not impressed though.

My candies:. I didn't liked it. I watched it thinking its good. But I was disappointed. Animation transition was getting worse after each episodes. Story was also meh. No action. Drawing of characters were inconsistent. Only composition and vfx were average. Very overrated show.

It's not dark or psycological at all. I don't think the point of the show was to completely shock the viewer with one tone shift and then fuck about for 10 episodes, it's presented in a cutesie kinda magical way at first still with a strong layer of darkness lurking to show what kind of story the characters are expecting to live.

The characters don't know what they're getting into but the viewer knows, that's how you build anticipation and a sense of dread. You're supposed to know that being a magical girl isn't fun and games and that Kyuubey is up to no good, the question is when will they realise it, what will happen and why is Kyuubey trying so hard to coerce Madoka specifically into it.
