Having loved the first one, I wasn't sure if this one would meet the mark of Kidulthood but I have to say it did. I wouldn't say it is better than the first but it is still really good. It was good to see they had a lot of new faces in the cast who played their parts well. I thought Scarlett Johnson who played Lexxi was brilliant.

She played her role really well and was very convincing. Was very weird seeing her face again since the last time I saw her was in Eastenders and I thought she was good in that.

The groups of youths were good apart from Dabs played by Plan B. They take what they have stolen to Ike's house to sell and are given money by Ike, who leaves to sort out some business. It is revealed that his partner is Andreas, whose face was cut in the first film by Trife.

Ike tells a customer that even Andreas had to learn the hard way. Andreas remarks that he got what he deserved, as he tested Curtis's patience and suffered the consequences. Then Ike burns his customer's arm and beats him up to teach him a lesson for making money behind his back on his gear. He goes to Ike's house, seeking help about Sam, so Ike gives him a gun.

Then Andreas suggests hiring some of the teenagers to kill Sam. Jay makes it clear that the others must not see Sam's face when the murder happens. Dabs tells Henry about the plan. Not willing to kill a man, Henry tells Dabs not to go through with it. A scuffle happens and Dabs hits Henry over the head with a brick. Later, Dabs and Blammy meet Omen and tell him about the job. Omen agrees after Dabs lies and says that the target was the one who hurt Henry. Sam and Lexi meet and Sam learns that she was gang raped years ago, which led her into drug addiction because as they are having sex she pushes him away.

As he gets up she sees various scars on his back and it is revealed they were given to him by Trife's uncle as revenge and when Lexi touches them he leaves in anger. But shortly afterwards, Robert tells Jay that he needs to move on. Later, the teenage hit-men see Sam walking through a park and tackle him to the ground. Has Clarke noticed a change in the area he grew up in? There's a scene [in Brotherhood ] where Sam goes into a cafe, that wouldn't have existed 10 years ago.

Times have changed in that sense but there are still those boys about that are hanging around doing their thing and there are still those girls that are about doing their thing and attracting those boys. Crucially, it seems natural rather than the result of a forced quota, and is emblematic of the make-up of the city. But, in real life — with the increased destruction of London's inner city council estates, and the social cleansing of the teenagers that live on them — the future is unclear for this kind of natural melting-pot model of suburban London diversity.

According to Clarke, the area is changing but "it is still like that, although maybe less so. There are still council blocks but obviously gentrification has changed it a little bit. That amalgamation and mix of people is still there, and I think that's important. I like my kids growing up in an area where they can see people from different countries and nationalities and walks of life. That's important for me; black people, white people.

For some, the destruction of tower blocks in which teenagers beat each other up and swap blowjobs for ecstasy might be seen as a good thing. Ultimately though, no matter how badly behaved the youth of these films may seem, they are just teenagers doing the things that teenagers do. While Clarke refrains from chastising the behaviour of the youths in his films, his overall message at the end of the trilogy is one that emphasises how your actions as a teenager can impact the rest of your life and the lives of others.

What he did at years-old is still affecting him. Nonetheless, I wanted the overarching message to be that you can change. That you can get out of your environment and you don't have to be who your past actions are, you don't have to be defined by them. In their depictions of inner-city teenagers, the films echo Mathieu Kassovitz's La Haine about the notoriously violent suburbs of Paris and Larry Clark's hot and amoral summer in New York's Kids.

Indeed, Clarke has explicitly stated that he was inspired by the latter whilst writing Kidulthood. But while the Kidulthood trilogy may not be as critically acclaimed as Kids , they are arguably just as important in terms of providing an authentic and no-holds barred insight into a city's adolescent underbelly.
